Situated on the west coast of Istria, Rovinj is one of the most iconic towns in Croatia. In the old town of Rovinj you can perfectly sence the true magic of the Adriatic. The old town was built on a small island and was only connected with the mainland in the 18th century. The town stands on a small hill, with beautiful stone houses tightly crowded down to the seafront.
Strolling down the streets of the old town
Strolling down the streets of one of the most charming and romantic towns on Mediterranean is a perfect way to spend an afternoon.
Explore small streets, get a feel of local life, discover beautiful courtyards, roam the Rovinj market where you can buy local olive oil, truffles and locally grown vegetables. Getting a real feel of the place means tasting all the delicious local food, so the market is a perfect place for trying out interesting local flavors.
Dinner with a view
There are many charming little restaurants in Rovinj where you can choose from a variety of Croatian specialities. This time we chose to dine in the beautiful restaurant just by the sea, La Puntulina. The ambience of the restaurant is simply wonderful. Beautiful old-style furnishings, terrace on the stone cliffs and a majestic sea view combined with delicious fresh sea food is a great combination for a great dinner experience.
St. Euphemia church and bell tower
A labyrinth of cobbled old streets leads to the hilltop church of St. Euphemia, whose bell tower dominates the Rovinj skyline. St. Euphemia is the patron-saint of the town, and the church is a must visit sight in Rovinj. There is an interesting legend behind the church and St. Euphemia’s story which gives a special fell to the whole area.
If you are not afraid of the heights and willing to climb old wooden stairs, I would suggest you visit the bell tower of the church. The panoramic 360 view from the top is breathtaking and absolutely memorable.
