If you want to explore Istria and have fun doing cool unique things, here are some of my favourite things to do in istria.
Istria is well known for it’s truffles as the white and the black truffles have their natural habitat in this area. If you would like to experience unforgettable truffle hunting adventure, this is a right place for you. Karlić truffles family owned estate is located near Buzet, in Paladini. The family organizes little truffle seeking demonstrations, where you can see first-hand how truffles are found. And if you are lucky enough to find one, you can keep it for yourself.
Besides truffles, Istrian peninsula is famous for its wines and wineries. There are numerous wineries all over Istria where you can taste different kinds of delicious wines and see how the wine is made. One of my favourite wineries in Istria is Kabola winery located in Momjan. We spent an amazing afternoon there as we had a winery tour and tasted many tasty organic wines.
National Park Brijuni
A nice trip by boat to Brijuni Islands is a wonderful way to spend a day. There you can find time for swimming, a small tourist train ride, or a bike tour. If you are interested in history, there you can see several archeological, two ancient Roman villa remains. There is also a safari park where you can see zebra, Somali sheep, zebu, dromedary, llama and elephant. As well, it is a perfect place for a nice picnic and for a relaxing afternoon in the sun.
Liski kanal, or Lim channel, is a 13 km long karst canyon, whose lush green water are surrounded by beautiful forest valleys. This area is Istria’s most fertile breeding area for mussels and oysters, therefore here you can find many restaurants offering delicious oysters and mussels.
